ASHKAM: PARADISE OF THE KALAHARI

Loch Broom Paradys is in the heart of the Kalahari (derived from the word 'Kgalagadi' which means 'the great drought,'). In less than a decade the proud owner of this farm, established an oasis in the midst of this unique landscape.

Upon arrival you are greeted with outstanding infrastructure, immediately demonstrating why this is known as the 'paradise of the Kalahari'.

This farm is home to a wide variety of indigenous flora and fauna which is protected by excellent management and conservation practices. The typical dune veldt and streets are covered with short and long leg bushman grass, ghagras and many other herbs and grasses and trees like Camelthorn, gray Camelthorn, Shephard's tree, Blackthorn and Silver-leaf cluster.

No effort and expense have been spared to establish infrastructure and the entire infrastructure including buildings and fencing is relatively new. The main component of the enterprise is game farming and the farm is also registered and equipped to accommodate game auctions. Bomas and fencing certificates are in place, 3,000 ha is fenced with 2.1 / 2.5 meters game-proof fences, the game camps are divided into 100 ha camps and the rest of the farm is fenced with 1.2 / 1.8 meter fences. There are a total of 79 camps, each with its own water yard. The unique camp system with corridors, beads and water supply enables you to rotate pasture / veldt optimally.

The farm has sufficient fresh underground water and there are 10 boreholes with an average water level of about 70 meters, of which 4 are equipped. All pump to a 600,000 liter reservoir from where it is distributed to all camps through 40-50 mm pipelines @ 5 bar pressure. There are a total number of 11 reservoirs, 36 tanks, a dam, and troughs in each camp as well as a solar panel system on standby for water distribution. Water is also available from the Kalahari east pipeline but is not currently used. A properly maintained road system ensures access to each camp and water point on the farm.

Diversity is also built into the enterprise with components of cattle and sheep farming (there are feedlots for 5,000 sheep).

A huge potential has been created for further development of eco-tourism component with the resort zoning already in place. A 700 sqm lodge with 9 bedrooms (all en-suite) with the necessary facilities, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor barbeque areas and a campsite for 10 sites with neat ablution facilities have been established. There are 4 houses, three newly built guest houses, 1 bungalows, 1 rondavels and a number of stores, workshops and sheds, slaughter facilities, cold room and farm shop. Eskom power is available and there are 3 points (100 and 2 x 16 kVa) with 3 phase.
